For the average landlubber, September 19 may come and go as a rather uneventful day. For others it’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day, a parody holiday started by two guys in Oregon who felt everyone should glorify the days when swashbucklers ruled the seas by talking like a pirate, for at least one day a year.

There’s no reason the party can’t extend throughout the home. For anyone channeling their inner pirate, or perhaps just hoping to stumble upon a buried treasure, we’ve got a few subtle and not-so-subtle ways to drop anchor on a personal schooner style.

Only a true pirate fan could fashion a galley such as this custom-built loft by Kuhl Design Build. It’s got a masthead with a “crow’s nest” and a perfect view of the seas ahead.

Scallywags can board via a sturdy netted crosswalk affixed along the room’s far wall.

This authentic design boasts its own wheel prop, a climbing rope to the main room and a cozy nesting bed for sleepy pirates.
