Renovation Detail: The Kitchen Laundry Room

After purchasing our home from an elderly couple who had moved the laundry area from the basement into the kitchen, I was unsure how I would feel about washing my unmentionables and sautéing veggies in the same space. But after 14 months in our home I can honestly say I'm hooked! It is so convenient. I have the kitchen table for folding and am often reminded to switch the laundry due to the hours I log cooking.

Our washer and dryer are concealed behind bifold doors, and while we will replace the cabinetry when we renovate our kitchen, the layout is the bee's knees. It allows for us to store our cleaning supplies with our laundry supplies in a central location. Whether you're able to add a laundry unit to your kitchen or outfit your butler's pantry, I highly recommend the kitchen laundry room.

With the washer and dryer installed underneath a counter, one can easily use the surface for folding and vegetable chopping.

With the machines concealed by hinged cabinet doors, guests have no idea that whites are a-soaking and laundry is a-drying in this San Francisco kitchen.

A nearby kitchen table can be used for folding, a trick I often utilize.
