The Rainbow Connection

June is Gay Pride Month. And whether you live in West Hollywood or West Virginia, chances are that you’ll start seeing rainbow flags round every corner as joyous celebrants take to the streets.

To be honest, I’ve never been crazy about rainbows as a design motif. For me they’ve always been one step up from unicorns and daisies. But in the spirit of Pride, I gave myself the task of finding interiors that utilize rainbows in ways that are classy, not cloying. I think I’ve found some attractive examples; see if you agree.

And whether you’re in the LGBT camp or merely know someone who is, now would be a great time to show your true colors — whether it’s in the way you decorate or the actions you take.

It’s not the colors of the rainbow I dislike, but the arcing form you usually see them in. But when you — pardon the expression — “straighten out” the rainbow, it can look pretty cool.

Especially when you pair it with a fabulous chair like this one.

It’s hard to look at these blinds and not smile. That window treatment would make every morning sunny.

I know, I know — this turns literature into something that’s merely for show. But you gotta admit it’s kind of a kick, and would be a great thing to do if you had vacant bookshelves and nothing to fill them with (yet).
