Multiply and Conquer With Design Groupings

Magnify good design by displaying multiples of your favorite artwork, lighting elements or collections throughout the home.

One of my favorite ways of creating a dynamic visual experience in a room is by replicating a design piece over and over again. The result is a sculptural and engaging installation that rewards with both simplicity and creativity. So if you love a decorative piece and can afford it, why not get more than one? Here are a few examples of some very successful designs shared by fellow Houzzers that exemplify the power of multiples.

The installation of random lights fits so perfectly in this loft. And even though these pendants are quite stunning on their own, they make an even bolder statement in multiples. Their translucent texture easily allows grouping them together without obstructing any natural light or city views.

You do not have to limit yourself to repeating only one item. Instead, as this interior shows, you can double or triple a whole grouping of pieces. The blue table lamps add so much character to this space.

You can also use the framework of a storage unit to design in multiples. Even though each cube has a unique set of items displayed in it, their uniformity through color and texture achieves the same effect as repeating the same object over and over again. The framework also gives the collection a neater and more put-together look.

Designing in multiples is even more applicable when it comes to sculptures. As shown in this interior, you can accomplish significant drama by utilizing smaller objects and grouping them in a dynamic pattern.
