Gorgeous Green-Roofed 2 Bar House by Feldman Architecture Springs Up in Menlo Park, CA

Feldman Architecture designed and built this beautiful green-roofed 2 Bar House in the San Francisco Bay Area. The building is divided into a bedroom area and a perpendicular living room, with big expansive windows suffusing the space with natural daylight. The 2 Bar House was built with sustainable materials and it combines energy efficiency, innovative design, and green space under -- and on top of -- one roof.

Feldman Architecture removed an old, inefficient structure on the site of the 2 Bar home to make room for the new modern project. The home was built for an active family that enjoys both indoor and outdoor activities.  The family is connected to their ample yard through large glass window walls set into the living and dining rooms downstairs. In warmer months, the glass curtains open, extending the living space to the patio that borders the perimeter of the house outside. Both accordion glass door walls, and garage-style glass panels open to let in fresh air from the yard. The bedrooms are located on the top horizontal bar and are encased in timber louvers. The slats provide privacy, filter the sunlight, help keep rain away from the structure, and also provide cosmetic appeal. Skylighting and ample windows illuminate the bedrooms. A skylight in one of the childrens’ rooms is accessible by a wall-mounted indoor climbing feature, which leads to the roof decks.
The private roof garden caps off the living room area. The green roof is landscaped to match the gardens and the yard, and it provides an extra breadth of green space for the family to enjoy. It also helps insulate the rooms below while infiltrating rainwater. The green home is a model of efficient and elegant family living that maximizes natural sunlight and ventilation and even derives some power from a photovoltaic array.
