Sweet Luxury: A Mini Kitchen for the Guest Suite

Once upon a time, when two or three generations of a family shared a home, we had what were called in-law suites. These practical in-bedroom kitchenettes have evolved into today's personalized morning kitchens.

They're ideal for homes with second floor masters, with frequent guests and for large residences whose bedrooms are rather far from the kitchen. And they're still great for in-laws, too!

Here are some sensible-style tips for adding a morning kitchen to another living area in your home.

Coffee is a large part of many folks' morning routines. If you'd like to enjoy your first cup in the relaxation of your master suite — or provide this luxury for your guests — plan a coffee station into your morning kitchen.

A spacious master suite is often the location for a home's morning kitchen, exclusively benefitting the homeowners. A spare wall — especially one backing up to the master bath for plumbed appliances — can easily be enhanced by matching cabinetry hosting creature comforts.

The master bath isn't shown in this image. If it's located where the door near the balcony is located, I'd site a morning kitchen on the wall where the red picture is currently located.

While master suites are the most common location for a morning kitchen, there's no reason a shared guest space or upstairs gathering room couldn't benefit from one, too.

These homeowners could put one where the television is located. If they have a comparable niche elsewhere on this spacious landing — especially one that backs up to a bathroom if the morning kitchen needs plumbing — that could work just as well.
